With outdoor games coming up at Wrigley Field early in the new year, another college hockey team has ported a look over from the baseball diamond.
Earlier in December, the Ohio State Buckeyes hockey team unveiled their special edition jerseys for the 2025 Frozen Confines: Big Ten Hockey Series, taking place at the home of the Chicago Cubs on January 3 and 4. Like their compatriots at Penn State, Ohio State’s look for their Wrigley Field matchup against fierce rivals Michigan borrows heavily from the school’s baseball team, with a script “Ohio State” logo across the chest and a player number underneath on the front of the jersey.
The base of the Buckeyes’ jersey is dark grey, and both the script and the number on the front are white with red outlines. Ohio State’s signature red, white and black stripes — most famously found on their football uniforms — run around the waist and each sleeve.
On each shoulder, there’s a patch with a red buckeye leaf inside a red circle. This same logo is found at the front of the collar, which has narrow red trim around it. The numbers on the back and sleeves are white with red outlines, while the names on the back are one-color white.
The jerseys were shown in the unveiling material paired with gray pants, red gloves and grey socks with striping matching the sleeves. The pants have an Ohio State logo on the right leg. The Buckeyes will wear their usual helmets, which mimic those of the school’s football team with a silver base and school stripe down the middle. Black player numbers are placed on the front and back of the helmets.
The Frozen Confines series consists of a total of four games over the two days. Ohio State and Michigan will square off on January 3, along with Notre Dame taking on Penn State. The following day sees men’s teams from Wisconsin and Michigan State face off, as well as the women’s teams from Ohio State and Wisconsin.
The college games take place just days after the NHL Winter Classic between the Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues, which will also be held at Wrigley Field on December 31, 2024.
