ONE Championship: “I design most of it myself”

Hiroyuki Tetsuka has built his entire career on doing things his own way. His daily training routine is no exception.

The Japanese slugger has cemented himself as one of the most rugged and physically imposing fighters in his division through a combination of natural-environment conditioning, raw athleticism and a meticulously structured day-to-day approach to his craft.

While most professional fighters operate under the daily direction of a head coach, Tetsuka has chosen to take ownership of his own preparation.

The result is a self-driven training system grounded in classical foundational work. After all, “Japanese Beast” has long believed that the basics, properly executed, deliver more than complicated routines ever could.

Hiroyuki Tetsuka walked through the structure that has built his career during a recent interview with ONE Championship, saying:

“It varies day to day. Generally, grappling practice around midday, eat, then striking at night. Roughly two sessions a day. Wake up, do strength training, then boxing or whatever in the evening. It shifts depending on the day of the week, but two sessions a day is the baseline.”

He continued, “The basics — bench press, push-ups, pull-ups, deadlifts, squats. Really fundamental stuff. I design most of it myself. That said, once a week, I have a personal trainer who looks at my movement and body mechanics.”

Hiroyuki Tetsuka primed to deliver another trademark performance at The Inner Circle

Thus far, his unique approach has helped him through some tough tests inside the ONE Circle.

The 36-year-old, who fights out of Yamada Dojo-TGFC, has secured six finishes from seven triumphs in the promotion. He spots an insane 87 percent finishing rate.

However, all that will be put to the test in Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium in his return at The Inner Circle on Friday.

Hiroyuki Tetsuka faces ONE lightweight submission grappling world champion Kade Ruotolo in a lightweight MMA tiff. The American looks to continue his perfect 3-0 start to the all-encompassing discipline with another big win.
