Fans have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to call out Manchester United star Andrey Santos after the Red Devils’ 3-0 Premier League loss to Bournemouth.
Manchester United entered the fixture with a 7-game winless streak, hoping to turn things around against a Bournemouth side unbeaten in their last 3 games. Michael Carrick made big changes to his starting XI as he dropped captain Bruno Fernandes to the bench.
Thanks for the submission!
The decision didn’t work as Manchester United were outworked and outplayed by a high-pressing Bournemouth side. The Red Devils didn’t create many chances, whereas the visitors kept threatening Senne Lammens’s goal.
The breakthrough came in the 38th minute as Cherries winger Rayan side-footed the ball past Lammens from a set-piece curled into his path. Things went from bad to worse after a Leny Yoro mistake allowed Adrien Truffert to steal the ball and assist Marcus Tavernier for the Cherries’ second goal of the game.
The second half followed the same pattern, as the Red Devils were not able to play amid pressure from the Bournemouth players. The Cherries added a third after Lammens’ misjudgment allowed Evanilson to put the ball into an empty goal, and the match ended 3-0.
Most of the Manchester United players were poor on the day; one player who was called out by the fans was Andrey Santos. The Brazilian midfielder, signed from Chelsea earlier this summer, struggled to keep control in the middle of the park and was poor in defending transitions. Fans have taken to X to call out his performance. One fan called Santos the worst footballer they’d seen:
Another fan claimed:
A third fan called out the club CEO for the transfer incomings:
Some of the other reactions are as follows:
This result leaves the Red Devils 16th in the PL table. They will take on Chelsea next in the Premier League on Saturday, October 31st.
Gary Neville reacts after Manchester United’s loss to Bournemouth
Former Red Devils star Gary Neville has claimed the club is likely to sack Michael Carrick after their 3-0 loss to Bournemouth in the PL. He insisted that the club are likely to make a decision that the fans will not be happy about, but added it’s a decision they will be forced to make. He said (via MUFC Scoop):
“Michael Carrick is popular. But the owners, the sporting department and the players are not popular. They have badly let the club down. Tomorrow, they will probably make a decision that will disgust Manchester United fans but it is probably necessary. The club is a mess.”
