New Overwatch hero Doctrine, Sombra and Roadhog reworks, and more announced at BlizzCon 2026

The most important news is the announcement of an all-new character: Doctrine. He is a Support who, after being freed from prison by Doomfist and his gang, joins their cause. He wields a scepter that heals allies and damages foes, has a drone that can heal an ally, and a dash ability to escape from danger. With the press of a button, he can “Infuse” his abilities to empower them – like gaining flight instead of dashing.

Doctrine officially arrives in Overwatch Season 5 in October 2026. That said, those attending BlizzCon 2026 can play him at the venue, while those watching from home can dive into a limited Hero Trial in-game to see how he controls and functions ahead of the final launch.

Additionally, two previously reworked heroes are getting reworked again: Sombra and Roadhog. The latter Tank hero Roadhog’s hookshot one-hit combo will be changed so he is less frustrating to play against. Meanwhile, the former enjoys a much bigger overhaul, as the DPS character Sombra will change roles, now becoming a Support. This will no doubt have mixed reactions from the community.

For something out of the blue, Overwatch VAs will be hosting a new TTRPG called Questwatch. It will be led by Cassidy VA Matt Mercer with other heroes like Symmetra, Vendetta, Sombra, and Reinhardt also joining the fray. It airs on September 13, 2026 at 12 PM PT.

To celebrate Overwatch at BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard Entertainment is giving players a BlizzCon Mythic Gift voucher. As the name suggests, players who complete one match will obtain this special voucher that can be redeemed in the shop for a complete set of select hero Mythic skins released from the past Seasons 1-14.

Lastly, Season 5 will see the end of Reign of Talon and feature new additions, such as the new Escort map Watchpoint: Grímsvötn, the return of older Battle Passes, and more.
