LA Lakers fans have had enough of the ongoing narrative that Luka Doncic is not a top NBA MVP candidate this season. Ice Cube’s son and diehard Lakers supporter, O’Shea Jackson Jr., argued Doncic’s case on social media in response to Rachel Nichol’s viral remarks.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Jackson dropped a huge statement on why Doncic deserves consideration for MVP. He pointed out the changes the Slovenian star made to his body, how he’s playing amid a family issue and making history while helping put the Lakers third in the West.
Thanks for the submission!
“The man completely changed his body and lifestyle. Playing while his family is tearing apart. Putting up numbers we ain’t seen since Kobe and Mike. Over 100 steals. Climbed us into 3rd place. The story is amazing. But alas, the goal post is not the same for a Laker. 2020 MVP and DPOY are still the most bullsh*t blatant robberies in my eyes,” Jackson tweeted.

For the 2020 MVP and DPOY, LeBron James and Anthony Davis came in second to Giannis Antetokounmpo for both respective awards.
What did Rachel Nichols say about Luka Doncic?
Speaking on Sports Illustrated’s “Open Floor” podcast, Rachel Nichols explained why Luka Doncic won’t be at the top of her MVP ballot. Nichols argued that Doncic doesn’t play defense the entire season, so he should not be winning the biggest individual award in the league.
“Is he the top contender for MVP right now? No, he is not,” Nichols said. “Is the reason because you do have to play both sides of the ball for all eight months of the season? Yes, it is. And it is a full-season award, and it’s for both sides of the ball. So, am I going to vote him my number one for MVP? No.”
However, LA Lakers fans pulled out receipts from Nichols supporting James Harden’s MVP candidacy in 2018. Nichols didn’t care if Harden wasn’t playing defense most of the time because his scoring was enough to change the game for the Houston Rockets.
Luka Doncic drops to 4th in latest NBA MVP rankings
After Victor Wembanyama’s statement about the MVP, his case got stronger against Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luka Doncic and other candidates. NBA.com’s latest rankings put Wembanyama at No. 1, followed by SGA and then by Nikola Jokic.
Doncic dropped to fourth despite having one of the best months of his career. He was averaging 37.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 7.4 assists and 2.3 steals per game in March, while shooting 49.2% from the field, 39.2% from 3-point range and 79.4% from the free-throw line.
