Popular star opens up on wrestling once more after 19 years

AEW is one of the most influential wrestling promotions in the modern era. Tony Khan and a few wrestlers founded it in 2019. The company has been thriving, and it seems like they will continue delivering throughout 2026.

All Elite Wrestling has an amazing commentary team. Names such as Taz, Bryan Danielson, and Tony Schiavone, among others, are invaluable to Tony Khan. Retired wrestler Excalibur is one of the most talented commentators in the industry. He has been with the Jacksonville-based company since its inception.

Excalibur has not entered the squared circle in almost two decades. In a recent interview with the San Diego Times, the 45-year-old admitted that he occasionally thinks about returning. He named AEW stars Kyle Fletcher and Daniel Garcia as his dream opponents. But also said that he drops the idea when he realizes that his back and knees are not completely fine.

“But then I’ll stand up and my knees will crack and my lower back will twinge and I’ll say, ‘Oh, you know what? Maybe that itch is better left unscratched.” he said.

AEW commentator Excalibur on learning from the legendary Jim Ross

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has been with AEW since 2019. Excalibur has learned a lot from him, and in a 2021 appearance on My Mom’s Basement, he opened up on this experience.

The 45-year-old revealed that Ross made him realise he had to make some major changes in this commentary style.

“One of the first shows, it was either Fyter Fest or Fight for the Fallen 2019. JR said to me, ‘You’ve got good points, but we don’t get paid by the word.’ And I realized, when it’s a PWG show and I’m calling it by myself, I can ramble on for as long as I need to to make a point. But when I have to pass the ball between two other guys, being concise and really making a point with an economy of words – that’s something, for live television, that I hadn’t done a lot of until that point. That’s a lesson that really stuck with me,” he said. [H/T: 411 Mania]

It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Excalibur. It will certainly be interesting to see him wrestle again someday.
