After receiving more than 1,000 suggestions from baseball fans in Quincy, Illinois, a new team in collegiate summer level Prospect League unveiled its name and branding. The team will be called the Quincy Doggy Paddlers, with a set of logos centered around a canine canoeist named Barkley.
Per the team, the name “Doggy Paddlers” came together due to its charm, creativity, and local ties to the Mississippi River, German heritage, hunting, and the town of Quincy’s nickname, the Gem City.

A set of logos unveiled by the team highlight Barkley the paddler calling his shot Babe Ruth style, holding a baseball in his mouth, and demonstrating the proper form for gripping a canoe paddle, with one paw over the top grip and another just above the blade.
A diamond that appears throughout the suite of logos, including as a charm on Barkley’s collar or as part of a paw print, is a wink and a nod not just to the city’s nickname, but to the team’s predecessor, the Quincy Gems, who played in the city from 2009 through 2024.

The Doggy Paddlers will make their debut May 28.
