The high-profile action continues in the UEFA Champions League as RB Leipzig and PSV Eindhoven square off at the Red Bull Arena on Tuesday. Both sides head into matchday two seeking to secure their first win of the campaign, having dropped points in the curtain-raiser back in September.
While RB Leipzig have blown hot and cold this season, they secured a morale-boosting result at the weekend when they hammered Eintracht Frankfurt 6-0 in their Bundesliga clash at the Red Bull Arena.
Thanks for the submission!
Head coach Martín Demichelis will hope the league win can serve as the catalyst for a much-improved display in the Champions League, where they suffered a heavy 4-1 loss against Como in the opening game on September 10.
Leipzig have their sights set on reaching the UCL knockout stages for the first time since March 2024, when they suffered a 2-1 aggregate loss against Spanish giants Real Madrid in the round of 16.
Meanwhile, PSV Eindhoven played out a 1-1 draw with Shakhtar Donetsk in their UCL curtain-raiser on September 10, when Sergino Dest netted in the 48th minute to cancel out Gleiker Mendoza’s first-half opener.
Since then, Peter Bosz’s men have picked up two wins from three matches in the Eredivisie, with a 3-2 loss against Twente on September 20 sandwiched between the two victories.
PSV have come into the new UCL campaign aiming to improve on their performance from last season, when they suffered a group-stage exit after picking up eight points from eight matches to finish 28th in the table.
