Real Madrid able to promote defender in the summertime, participant not eager on potential exit: Reports

Real Madrid are reportedly ready to offload defender Raul Asencio this summer despite only tying him down with a new deal recently. As reported by Spanish outlet El Mundo, Los Blancos could be open to letting the 23-year-old go this summer.

It has been reported that the Spanish giants are extremely disappointed with him following his tensions with manager Alvaro Arbeloa. The centre-back has fallen down the pecking order at the Santiago Bernabeu and is now the fourth-choice behind Dean Huijsen, Eder Militao and Antonio Rudiger.

Arbeloa has left out Asencio from his squad on multiple occasions this season and he is reportedly not trusted by the backroom staff. Hence, the club’s hierarchy are said to be frustrated with the defender despite handing him a new and improved deal just a few months ago.

Real Madrid are reportedly looking to offload the academy graduate in the summer if they receive the right offer. However, the player is said to be against the idea of leaving his boyhood club.

Contracted at the Bernabeu until 2031, Asencio is in a strong position and would be under no pressure to accept a move. He has made 31 appearances across competitions this season for Los Blancos.

Asencio enjoyed his breakout season for Real Madrid last time out under Carlo Ancelotti. He made 46 senior appearances for the club last season and made his impression during an injury crisis at the back.

Ruud Gullit identifies the problem with Real Madrid this season

Dutch football icon Ruud Gullit has identified the problem behind Real Madrid’s struggles this season. The former PSV, AC Milan, and Chelsea attacker has claimed that Los Blancos do not play as a team, and that some players do not offer anything defensively.

Gullit has claimed that the Spanish capital club rely too much on individual quality of their superstars. However, he has insisted that they lack the cohesion to work as a unit. He said:

“I think Real Madrid is more dangerous because of the individual brilliance of its players. If you look at other teams, they play more as a team. I think if they manage to do that, to play more as a team… Because now you can see that many players have to work very hard to support those players.”

He added:

“Sometimes you can’t sustain that all the time. And if, for example, you look at Paris Saint-Germain, everyone is working hard tracking back. And that’s what you need to do. And I’m not saying they don’t. But they don’t do it as much as they’ve shown so far. Sometimes you see them wandering around. Walking. You can have one like that. That’s already difficult. If you have a couple of them, then it becomes very complicated.”

Real Madrid have some of the biggest superstars in world football in their ranks such as Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham. Despite their star power, they look destined to finish second in LaLiga and are already out of the Champions League.
