Real Madrid defender Raul Asensio reportedly wants to remain at the club despite Los Blancos looking to sign another defender before the summer transfer window closes.
Asensio, 23, has come up through the ranks at the Santiago Bernabeu and made his first-team debut in the 2024-25 campaign. He has made 80 appearances across competitions for the club, scoring twice and assisting thrice.

Last season, the Spaniard scored twice in 34 outings across competitions, with both strikes coming in 23 games in La Liga, where Los Blancos finished behind Barcelona for the second straight year.
Despite being contracted to the Santiago Bernabeu till 2031, Asensio doesn’t seem to have a future under new boss Jose Mourinho, who has returned to the club’s helm for the first time since ending a three-year stint in 2013.
As per AS, Asensio likely staying put at the club means Los Blancos aren’t likely to have any more new signings in the closing hours of the transfer window. Madrid had contemplated sending out Asensio on loan, but that doesn’t seem to be the case now despite the player yet to make his season debut.
Another player who’s seemingly surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu is midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, who could only be allowed to leave if an offer of at least €70 million arrives.
It means Madrid are all set to have a squad of 26 players – including one (Thiago) from the reserves – for the season despite Mourinho’s wish for a leaner squad of 21-22 players.

Real Madrid have had a solid start to the new season under Jose Mourinho, who’s won all three games in charge during his second stint. Los Blancos saw off Espanyol 2-1 away in their campaign opener.
They then thumped Real Sociedad 4-1 at home, with striker Kylian Mbappe starring with a hat-trick, before blanking Malaga 4-0 at home at the weekend in their most recent outing.
Mourinho’s side are next in action at Real Betis on Friday (September 4) as they seek to continue their perfect start to the season. With holders Barcelona beating Rayo Vallecano 5-2 at home on Monday (August 31), Los Blancos trail their arch-rivals on goal difference atop the La Liga table.
