GTA 6’s developer, Rockstar North, was recently affected by an explosion in their Edinburgh office. The source of the explosion was reported to be the boiler room, and prompt action was undertaken by the emergency services. Later, in a statement to BNO News, a Rockstar Games spokesperson confirmed that no one was seriously injured due to the mishap.

As of the time of writing, the office remains operational, and no impact has been reported on the development timeline of GTA 6. Here’s more.

Rockstar Games confirms: GTA 6 not affected by explosion, staff members safe

The explosion at the Rockstar North office in Edinburgh was initially reported on January 19, 2026. Scottish Fire and Rescue Service stated that they were alerted to the situation at 5:02 am, prompting a quick response.

Firefighters and other specialists were able to control structural damage promptly, and no casualties were reported. The authorities soon left the scene approximately four hours later. Later, in an official statement, a Rockstar Games spokesperson said:

“Many thanks to those that reached out with concern, and also to the police and fire crews who were on scene quickly to assess the situation – please know that everyone is well and our studio remains open and operational.”

They also clarified that the explosion indeed occurred due to a malfunction in one of the heating boilers. Since the studio remains open, the development cycle of GTA 6 should be relatively unaffected. No new delays have been announced by the developer since the game was pushed back to November 19, 2026.

The game has seen several delays at this point in time. Furthermore, Rockstar is even dealing with a lawsuit after several employees were fired. The Independent Workers of Great Britain union members have since been denied interim relief pay, and the case is set to go to full trial rather soon.

According to the workers, they were fired for attempting to form a union. However, Rockstar Games maintains that they were terminated for sharing sensitive information about their upcoming title, which was likely Grand Theft Auto 6.
