Former India captain Rohit Sharma continued his exploits with the bat in the ODI series opener against South Africa at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi on Sunday, November 30. The right-handed batter slammed a quickfire 57 off 51 balls with the help of three sixes and five boundaries. It was his third consecutive half-century for the Men in Blue, having smashed 73 and 121* against Australia Down Under. Overall, this was his 60th fifty in the 50-over format.
During his 57-run knock, Rohit (352) eclipsed Shahid Afridi (351) for most sixes in the format.
Like Rohit, Proteas batter Matthew Breetzke impressed with the bat, scoring 72 runs off 80 balls, comprising one six and eight boundaries. The fighting knock came after the tourists were reeling at 11/3 in just 4.4 overs. Notably, the 27-year-old has been exceptional with the bat in his first few outings for South Africa.
In this article, we will compare Matthew Breetzke’s record with Rohit Sharma after 10 ODIs.
Most Runs
Matthew Breetzke made his debut against New Zealand in February 2025, where he slammed 150 off 148 balls, but his maiden ton ended in vain as the Proteas lost the match by six wickets. However, he continued his brilliant form, amassing 614 runs after 10 ODIs.
On the other hand, Rohit Sharma didn’t get to bat on his debut against Ireland. The right-handed batter scored 224 runs in his first 10 ODIs.
Averages and Strike Rates
Matthew Breetzke has a healthy average of 68.22, while his strike rate is 95.48. Like Rohit, he has begun his career as a middle-order batter in ODIs despite playing as an opener for the Durban Super Giants in SA20.
On the contrary, Rohit Sharma averaged 32 with the bat in his first 10 ODIs. Meanwhile, his strike rate was 79.15.
Most 50s
Matthew Breetzke has slammed one century and five half-centuries in his ODI career. His 150 against the Kiwis remains his standout knock.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma managed two half-centuries after 10 ODIs. His career-best came against Sri Lanka in 2008, where he slammed an unbeaten 70.
Runs in winning causes
Matthew Breetzke has won four out of his 10 ODIs with the Proteas. In these games, he amassed 247 runs at an average of 82.33 with the help of three fifties.
On the contrary, Rohit Sharma won two out of his first 10 ODIs, scoring 63 runs in two innings at an average of 63.
Breetzke is miles ahead of Rohit after 10 ODIs. At 27, he has the potential to emulate him in the long run. Notably, Rohit has 11,427 runs in 277 ODIs (269 innings), including 33 tons and 60 half-centuries.
