Rumors of MJF instantly retiring go viral; the previous AEW World Champion breaks silence

Rumors of AEW’s Maxwell Jacob Friedman supposedly retiring from competition recently went viral on social media. Now, the former World Champion, who seemingly spawned the speculations himself, has wittily spoken up on the subject.

In a massive and unanticipated upset, last month at Dynamite: Spring BreakThru, Darby Allin defeated MJF to capture the latter’s AEW Men’s World Title. Big Hebrew did not take the loss in stride, however, repeatedly calling out the daredevil for employing a low-blow against him during their match and demanding to be given his belt back. Darby eventually revealed that he would grant Friedman a championship bout only under one condition- the challenger would have to put his hair on the line at Double or Nothing 2026.

Despite his reservations, MJF has agreed to the stipulation for the upcoming pay-per-view, signing the official contract for his Title vs Hair match against Allin this past Wednesday. The self-proclaimed “generational talent” is confident about his chances of regaining the AEW World Championship, insisting in a recent social media post that he will be the next title holder. He also claimed that he will retire as World Champion, which will then prompt the promotion to hold a tournament to crown a new champion- a tourney Friedman thinks his son will likely win.

Although MJF’s aforementioned post was clearly written in jest and in character, it gave birth to conjecture on X/Twitter that The Wolf of Wrestling was actually hanging up his boots. Friedman took to the platform himself a few hours ago to hilariously respond to and dismiss the rumors with mocking confirmation, writing:

“I had a good run.”- posted MJF.

MJF took aim at AEW World Champion Darby Allin

Ever since winning the All Elite Wrestling Men’s World Title Darby Allin has been on an unstoppable roll, defending the belt weekly against an array of opponents, including Tommaso Ciampa, Brody King, Kevin Knight, PAC, and Konosuke Takeshita. At ROH Supercard of Honor last Friday, the face-painted star was called out by his next challenger, fellow AEW “pillar” Sammy Guevara.

Ahead of The Spanish God’s World Title bout against Darby this past weekend on Saturday Night Collision, MJF offered Sammy a $500K bounty to get the job done against his opponent. Unfortunately, Allin once again retained his strap against Guevara, which prompted Friedman to lash out at the LFI member on X/Twitter.

“@sammyguevara idiot,” he wrote.

It remains to be seen whether MJF will get shaved bald at Double or Nothing, or whether he will be able to reclaim his “Triple B” from Darby Allin.
