The San Francisco 49ers will celebrate their 80th anniversary in 2026 with a commemorative logo, which they appropriately announced on April 9 – stylized as 4/9 – will be worn as a patch on their home, road, throwback and “Rivalries” uniforms this season.
The logo is rather simple when compared to the franchise’s previous anniversary marks, including their 40th in 1986, 50th in 1996, 60th in 2006, 70th in 2011 and 75th in 2016, though it’s worth noting the 60th mistakenly claimed “seasons” when it was actually their 61st season.
Where as those marks had additional details such as the Golden Gate Bridge, nods to their victories in Super Bowls XVI, XIX, XXIII, XXIV and XXI or were shaped like their 1965-72 alternate logo, football or diamond, this logo is almost entirely the No. 80 in a white block font.
There’s a red ribbon that displays “YEARS” protruding from the zero, while the 49ers’ logo and “EST. 1946” sits just beneath the digits. The logo is complete with a black background with a gold outline, tying in the other colors in San Francisco’s palette.
“The 49ers’ legacy is a global story that began in 1946 in the Bay Area,” the franchise said in a statement. “The logo for our 80 years of history is a bold proclamation recognizing the milestone season with a nod to the establishment of the organization in 1946.”
The 49ers were an original member of the All-American Football Conference, which merged with the NFL in 1949. They’re tied with the Dallas Cowboys for the third-most Super Bowl victories, trailing only the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steeler with six apiece.
