Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opener Sanju Samson starred with the bat in the IPL 2026 match against Mumbai Indians (MI) at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, April 23. The wicketkeeper-batter smashed a boundary off debutant Krish Bhagat off the last delivery to reach his 54-ball century. During his innings, he smashed six maximums and 10 boundaries.
Samson achieved the ton as Bhagat bowled a short delivery on middle and leg. The right-hander picked the delivery early and pulled it towards deep square leg. The ball hit the boundary cushion on the bounce and the batter took off his helmet to celebrate the milestone. The 31-year-old got a standing ovation from his CSK teammates while MI’s Indian players – skipper Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya congratulated him on the milestone.

Having smashed 115* off 56 balls against Delhi Capitals (DC) at Chepauk Stadium, Samson smashed his second century in IPL 2026. Overall, it was his fifth ton in the T20 league, joint equal with KL Rahul. He is now only behind Virat Kohli (8 tons), Jos Buttler (7) and Chris Gayle (6).
With yet another century, Samson has entered the top three in the most runs tally in IPL 2026. With 293 runs in seven innings, he is only behind SRH duo Abhishek Sharma (323 runs) and Heinrich Klaasen (320).

Sanju Samson’s century helped CSK post 207/6 in their allotted 20 overs against MI in the IPL 2026 encounter. However, the remaining batters failed to show up until Dewald Brevis and Jamie Overton contributed 21 (11) and 15 (7), respectively. Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sarfaraz Khan, and Kartik Sharma chipped in with 22 (14), 14 (8), and 18 (19), respectively.
AM Ghazanfar and Ashwani Kumar emerged as the pick of the bowlers for MI, bagging two wickets apiece. Mitchell Santner and Jasprit Bumrah also took one each.
In their last five meetings, CSK have beaten MI four times. Having said, the Mumbai-based franchise beat them by nine wickets in their previous meeting in 2025.
