NBA fans panicked on X after the cryptic post from Josh Hart amid a looming contract extension.
Hart is an important part of the New York Knicks, and fans want him to stay. He is eligible to sign a four-year, $132 million contract extension. However, the front office has not made a specific offer to the former Villanova star. Amid the ongoing talks, the Knicks forward had a cryptic post on X.

The post came after ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that the Knicks have shut down extension talks for Hart, Karl-Anthony Towns and Miles McBride. All three players are extension-eligible and played a crucial role in the team’s 2026 championship win.
The Knicks are focused on the new season and do not want any distractions.
“As an organization, our entire focus is on preparing for the upcoming season and delivering another year for our fans to be proud of. As a result, we will not be negotiating contract extensions until later in the season and will remain solely focused on preparing for the start of the season,” a Knicks spokesperson stated via Charania.
Following the report, fans expressed their thoughts on Josh Hart’s X post.
“Scare tactic to make Carlos sign,” a fan said.
“Sorry, Dolans a cheapo,” another fan commented.
“They pretty much just told y’all to shut the f**k up and dribble after winning a championship; idk if I would take that if I was y’all,” one fan said.
More fans commented on Hart’s post.
“The Knicks’ priority should be keeping the roster that won them a title,” someone commented.
“Woke up to the Knicks dynasty ending in year one,” a comment read.
“The first owner to ever be booed and eviscerated on ring night,” one fan commented.
ESPN’s Bobby Marks Says the Knicks Can Stay Under the Second Apron With Josh Hart and Karl-Anthony Towns
The Knicks’ biggest concern is to stay under the second apron. After they won the championship in June, team owner James Dolan said he does not want to go over the second apron.
On Friday, ESPN’s Bobby Marks appeared on “NBA Today” and spoke about the willingness of Josh Hart and Karl-Anthony Towns to help the Knicks. Both players are willing to accept deals that benefit the franchise while avoiding the second apron.
“Scenarios have been presented to the Knicks front office within the last month where both players would sign long term extensions and it would put New York in a position that they would be under the second apron for the 2027-28 season,” Marks said.
Marks did not specify what kind of deal Josh Hart and Karl-Anthony Towns would take to keep the Knicks under the second apron.
