Scottie Scheffler has officially taken his name back from the 2026 Texas Children’s Houston Open. The PGA Tour revealed on its X account that the World No. 1 and Bud Cauley will not be part of the tournament this week, which caused widespread injury concerns among fans, raising the question of what happened to Scheffler.
Interestingly, the Golf Channel has confirmed the cause, claiming that Scottie Scheffler and his wife, Meredith, will welcome their second child soon. The report also revealed that their child will most likely be born before the 2026 Masters, implying that Scheffler may not miss his Augusta National campaign.
Thanks for the submission!
Scheffler has become the seventh golfer to withdraw from the Texas Children’s Houston Open, and Matt Kuchar will take his spot in the field. With Kuchar’s prospects verified to play at Memorial Golf Course, Justin Lower has become the new first alternate, and if another withdrawal occurs, he will enter the event.
Scheffler and Meredith are high school sweethearts who began dating in their senior year, continued their long-distance relationship throughout college, and married in December 2020. The couple was married in Dallas and has been seen multiple times in big golf tournaments. They even welcomed their first child, Bennett, in May 2024, only a few weeks after Scheffler secured his second Masters.
Interestingly, during Bennett’s birth, Scheffler did not skip any tournament.
How did Scottie Scheffler do in his most recent tournament campaign?

Scottie Scheffler hasn’t competed in a tournament in almost two weeks. The golfer last competed in the 2026 Players Championship, where he failed to live up to expectations. The golfer finished the tournament with a total score of 5 under par, tied for 22nd place. Scheffler had a roller coaster event, shooting just even par and 1 over par in the first two rounds.
Following this, the golfer made a strong comeback in Round 3, shooting 5 under par, but his final round fell during the first nine holes. Scheffler made a mistake and took a double bogey on Hole 4, causing him to lose all the momentum. He even mentioned it during the post-tournament press conference, claiming that he was more concerned with how to tackle the situation than with winning.
According to ASAP Sports, Scottie Scheffler stated:
“I mean, I think with the way I hit it the first couple days, to kind of have the attitude that I did and the fight that I did, I think that — when I look at tournaments, I’m not thinking about winning, I’m thinking about approaching things the right way.”
The World No. 1 went on to add:
“I did my best to stay committed, and I did a good job, I think, of keeping the right attitude and keeping my head on straight in order to grind out a couple rounds that were difficult. And then I shot a nice round today as well. So overall, I think I’ve been in a good spot with how my attitude and commitment have been to my shots. So that’s, for me, a good week.”
Scottie Scheffler’s next tournament will most probably be the Masters, which will kick off on April 9.
