Seattle Seahawks, Washington Commanders To Wear Throwback Uniforms On Sunday Night Football – SportsLogos.Net News

For the second time this season, the Seattle Seahawks will be involved in a game that (technically) features both teams in their throwback uniforms. But rather go up against the road version of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ creamsicle uniforms, this time they’ll be paired against the Washington Commanders’ Redskins-inspired look.

During Sunday Night Football (8:20 p.m. ET on NBC), Seattle will be outfitted in its 1990s-era throwback uniforms, which feature silver helmets with a totem-style logo, royal blue jerseys with the same logo wrapped around the sleeves, silver pants with green, white and royal blue stripes down the sides and royal blue socks.

The Seahawks reintroduced the uniforms, which were originally worn from 1983-2001, ahead of the 2023 season. They are 2-3 in the design since, including a win over the Cleveland Browns and loss at the Dallas Cowboys in 2023, a win over the Denver Broncos and loss to the San Francisco 49ers in 2024 and the aforementioned loss to the Buccaneers on Oct. 5.

Seattle is scheduled to wear the uniforms one more time this season, including against the Minnesota Vikings on Nov. 30, with Sunday’s game marking the second time they’ll be worn on the road. The Seahawks are expected to wear their action green Color Rush uniforms in one game, as well, to max out the number of times an alternate or throwback can be worn each season, but they haven’t set a date yet.

Meanwhile, Washington will debut its new throwback-inspired uniforms on Sunday, which are heavily influenced by the franchise’s time as the Redskins, particularly their 1979-2019 road design that saw three Super Bowl victories (XVII, XXII and XXVI) with white jerseys that feature burgundy numbers outlined in gold, a burgundy collar, burgundy and gold cuffs and numbers on the sleeves.

The burgundy helmets prominently displays the Commanders’ primary “W” logo on the sides rather than the controversial logo, but includes the same a gold facemask that became a fixture on the Redskins’ helmets in 1978 and classic striping pattern that first appeared in 1972. The look is complete with burgundy pants with gold and white stripes down the sides, as well as white socks with a red and gold striping pattern.

It’s been reported that the throwback-inspired uniform will become part of a full redesign in 2026, similar to how the New York Jets wore their “New York Sack Exchange” throwback uniforms in 2023 and then promoted them to full-time road status in 2024. The Jets also revealed matching green home and black alternate designs inspired by their 1978-89 look in that rollout, which means we should expect the Commanders to reveal a burgundy jersey, gold pants and (perhaps) a new black alternate design next summer.

Washington will wear the uniforms two more times this season, including against the Denver Broncos on Nov. 30 and Dallas Cowboys on Christmas. The Commanders already wore their black alternate design in a loss to the Chicago Bears on Oct. 13, meaning they’ve also reached the max number of times (four) an alternate or throwback uniform can be worn each year after the NFL relaxed its rules this offseason.
