So far this season, Sergio Garcia has had a difficult time on the course. His game hasn’t been clicking until now, and he hasn’t put up any big statistics in any LIV tournaments this year. Even last week at Augusta National, he was unable to give his all, and although he made the cut, he finished the 2026 Masters toward the bottom of the leaderboard.
After four rounds, Sergio Garcia finished in a solo 52nd position with a total score of 8 over par. Apart from his performance, he made massive headlines for his moment of frustration during the final round. The golfer was on Hole 2 when he made a terrible driving shot, and later, in anger, tore down the tee box and then hit his driver into a cooler beside the fairway, shattering the driver in the process.
Thanks for the submission!
The Masters is well known for its elegance, and things like these are not liked by tournament officials. Following the incident, Sergio Garcia gave an apology statement, admitting that he regretted everything he did on the golf course. His statement read:
“I want to apologize for my actions on Sunday at The Masters tournament. I respect and value everything that The Masters and Augusta National Golf Club is to Golf. I regret the way I acted, and it has no place in our game. It doesn’t reflect the respect and appreciation I have for The Masters, the patrons, tournament officials, and golf fans around the world.”
It was also reported that Garcia received a warning from the officials for his actions and that if he had done it again, he would have received a two-shot penalty.
Sergio Garcia discusses the one thing he has in mind moving ahead

Following the 2026 Masters, Sergio Garcia discussed his poor form this season. He emphasized that his primary ambition moving forward was to compete in the Open Championship. He claimed that he has to qualify for the event and is now exploring ways to accomplish so.
According to Tennis World USA, the LIV Golfer stated:
“To play in the British Open, you have to qualify first, so we’ll see. Obviously, we need to see if we can find some positive feeling and straighten out our game a bit; let’s see what we’re capable of.”
Garcia later went on to talk about how he did not want to set any big goals, claiming:
“Right now, I have to take it one step at a time. That doesn’t mean I won’t play in the qualifiers, but at this point, with the way I’m playing, it’s impossible to qualify. We have to find our rhythm first and then see what we can do.”
The next tournament Sergio Garcia will be a part of is the LIV Golf Mexico City, which is all set to take place from April 16.
