Caitlin Clark, star of the Indiana Fever, has avoided the recent WNBA scandals. There have been conversations about the league’s stance on transgender athletes, which started after Clark’s teammate Sophie Cunningham expressed her opinion.
Amid Clark’s silence about the things that have gone around the league, longtime analyst Colin Cowherd applauded her for it. Cowherd even compared her to NBA legend Michael Jordan and current star Steph Curry for staying clear of the noise.
“She is Steph Curry, but with kind of a Michael Jordan mindset,” Cowherd said. “All business, all basketball. Has no opinion or comment among the controversies.
“With all this drama and nonsense around her … She’s not driving the controversy. Like Jordan, she’s all business.”
On Sunday, Clark and the Fever played against the Chicago Sky. The situation worsened when former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom was ejected after a furious verbal altercation with Sky guard Natasha Cloud.
Caitlin Clark was asked to comment about what happened between Cloud and Freedom. Although she played in the game, the Fever star shut down the question.
“To be honest, I didn’t see it,” Clark said (Timestamp at 1:27). “We were talking about the next play in our huddle, so I think that’s probably a question for Chicago.”
Clark was also asked if Freedom said something to her team. However, she just shook her head. The Fever star showed that she wasn’t focused on what happened between the former NBA star and Cloud. She concentrated on leading Indiana to a 113-90 win with her 37-point performance.
Caitlin Clark Speaks Out When She Needs To
Last season, Caitlin Clark cleared the air after some fans used her name in discussions that belittle other WNBA players.
“People should not be using my name to push those agendas. It’s disappointing. It’s not acceptable,” Clark said. “Treating every single woman in this league with the same amount of respect, I think, it’s just a basic human thing that everybody should do.”
However, Clark knows that she cannot control what WNBA fans talk about online. But she still wants the league’s supporters to be respectful to each other.
“I don’t put too much thought and time into thinking about things like that, and to be honest, I don’t see a lot of it,” she continued. “Basketball is my job. Everything on the outside, I can’t control that, so I’m not going to spend time thinking about that.”
Caitlin Clark is one of the most famous stars in the WNBA, and she knows that her name can make a massive impact. For this reason, she wants her followers to use her name wisely and show the utmost respect to others.
