Snapchat Adds New Styling Options for Bitmoji Avatars

Snapchat has unveiled some new Spring style options for your Bitmoji avatars, as it continues to refine and evolve its digital clothing options.

First off, Snap’s added a range of new Bitmoji looks, which take on a more baggy, relaxed feel:

Snapchat says that its seasonal fashion styles include barrel jeans, boat shoes, and trench coats, among other new looks.

That could help you re-align your digital doppelganger with the season, while Snap’s also added additional accessories from Prada, as part of its expanded fashion collection.

Snapchat announced its first branded handbag partnership with Prada and Miu Miu back in November, and is now adding more styles to choose from within this collection.

Which may all seem a little ridiculous to non-Snap users, a bit of a novelty for people with these cartoonish depictions.

But Bitmoji could end up being big business for Snap, especially as digital experiences evolve, and avatars become more of a consideration in how we interact with such.

Indeed, the future view of social media interaction is that more and more of it will eventually be conducted via avatars, with people engaging in VR and AR worlds through their digital depictions. That’s the core focus of Meta’s metaverse, which considers the popularity of online gaming worlds at present (like Roblox and Fortnite) and extrapolates that to future scenarios, when these younger audiences grow up.

Essentially, young audiences are already well accustomed to interacting in this way, and Meta’s hoping to convert that into an expanded pathway into its next-level experiences, while also building on the utility of virtual character interaction.

And with Bitmoji, Snap could also play a part in this.

It’s still not entirely clear what Snap’s future will be, given the rising competition in AR, and limitations on its app growth. Snap remains committed to its own AR glasses project, according to a recent interview with Snap chief Evan Spiegel, but with Meta’s AR project set to be a significant competitor, it’s hard to see how Snap will be able to keep pace.

As such, maybe Bitmoji will eventually become an even bigger part of Snap’s overall business.

People are already accustomed to using these as their digital depiction, with over 2.7 billion Bitmoji avatars in circulation.

And with more ways to customize and evolve your Bitmoji characters, maybe they could become more relevant in the next stage.
