New York Mets pitcher Jonah Tong found himself at the center of social media spotlight following his scary collision in Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies. The incident took place during the first inning at Citi Field when Tong collided with second baseman Bryson Stott.
The two players collided as Tong went to cover first base to receive a throw from Mark Vientos, but the Phillies $5.9M star, who signed a 1-year deal on January 2026, reached the bag at the same time and accidentally stepped on the rookie pitcher’s foot. Tong got back up despite tumbling to the ground and was seen limping as he went into the tunnel.

“I think I need to do a better job. Especially that first inning set the tone, but I feel like I competed well through it. But my job is to limit the damage and go out there and keep competing,” Jonah Tong said.

He said that his changeup has been a lot better, and if the rookie keeps on working on his stuff, along with the rest of the players, he might get a chance at the rotation.
