This week’s AEW Collision featured the fall of a top champion in the Jacksonville-based promotion. The show was taped following this week’s Dynamite in Smart Financial Centre at Sugar Land in Sugar Land, Texas.
It had the semi-finals of the Women’s Owen Hart Cup tournament between Maya World and Athena. World had the immense support of the AEW fans due to her rough patch in her personal life. Meanwhile, Minion Overlord was coming in with an epic winning streak since February. Her last defeat was at the hands of Syuri on February 27 at NJPW The New Beginning USA.
According to spoilers from PWInsider, Maya World defeated Athena to punch her ticket to the finals of the tournament. It marked the first defeat for the former WWE star in the past four months. The Fallen Goddess has been reigning as the ROH Women’s World Champion for more than 1000-days. Therefore, it is a big loss for Athena and an even bigger win for Maya.
With that, Maya World will now face Mercedes Mone at Forbidden Door 2026 in the finals of the tournament. She has a real shot to get an AEW Women’s World Championship match at All In in London this year.
AEW Collision witnessed some massive matches this week
This week’s Collision was a star-studded show. It featured some high-stakes matches between top stars. The show was headlined by a tag team match between Young Bucks and Jack Perry, taking on The Lethal Twist. After delivering an incredible showdown, Bucks and Perry scored the win in this match.
Moreover, The Hurt Syndicate made its in-ring return to All Elite Wrestling against Warren Johnson & Zach Mason. The faction went on to beat the duo to kick off their next chapter in the Jacksonville-based promotion. Besides, Zack Sabre Jr. was also in the action this week against Adam Priest, and he scored a big win.
Furthermore, Kris Statlander has punched her ticket to the AEW TBS Title Survival of the Fittest match by beating Mina Shirakawa on Collision. This show has certainly impacted the landscape of All Elite Wrestling. It will be keen to see what Tony Khan has planned for the company from here on.
