Overview
Spot the Fake for Anime merges the pick-a-door-style gameplay with the egg-stealing experience as seen in Steal an Egg. The game segregates the various zones on the map using a pick-a-door-style gateway. Each gateway features two doors, where one depicts an iconic character and the other shows a slightly different version of the same character. In order to pass through the gate without being deterred, you must walk through the correct version of this character.
Upon walking through the correct door, you will enter a zone governed by a sleeping guard. The guard is surrounded by various small character models, which you can steal and return to your base. When you pick up a character, the guard wakes up and chases after you. You must try to leave the zone before the guard catches you to retain the character.
Any characters you pick up can be placed on podiums in your home base. Once placed, they can be revealed after a few seconds, at which point they start generating Cash. To collect the Cash they make, step on the green buttons in front of the podiums.
Continue to earn Cash and purchase new items from the in-game shops to improve your progress and steal better anime characters.

- Picking the right door: Being able to pick the right door is largely predicated on your existing knowledge of anime. The earlier levels feature some of the most recognizable anime characters, making it fairly easy to spot them. As you progress, however, the character choices will become more and more niche, which may require you to pick a door based on an educated guess. If you pick the wrong door, you will receive a movement speed penalty, which can hinder your progress for a short while.
- Movement speed: Your ability to successfully steal from zones and evade the guards is determined by your movement speed. Movement speed can be increased through training, which can be performed by stepping on the treadmill. While the treadmill allows you to steadily train your movement speed, you can also purchase other items like Trails for a passive multiplier to your movement speed gain rate. Try to raise this stat as much as possible to ensure you are always faster than the NPCs that chase after you.
- Rare character variants: Characters in this game are segregated based on rarity; the higher the rarity, the better their earning rates. Rarer character variants only spawn every once in a while, and the game displays a global notification when this happens. In such an event, rush to the area where the character has spawned before other players to steal it and gain access to a highly lucrative anime character.
- Combat: In certain areas, you will be attacked by NPCs that chase after you and try to defeat you. You can equip your bat using the 1 key on the keyboard and press the Left Mouse Button to hit the enemies. Defeat them to freely wander in the area and steal any characters you may encounter without being deterred.
- Rebirth: You can perform a Rebirth to unlock new characters, zones, base customization options, maps, and stat bonuses. Rebirths can be performed upon upgrading your home base and treadmill the specified number of times. This is typically a lengthy process, but is a core part of the game’s progression nonetheless. Be sure to undergo a Rebirth whenever you get the chance.
