Jerry Jones is once again in the headlines amid the contract talks with George Pickens. The Dallas Cowboys owner wants the wide receiver to personally negotiate his contract with him, thereby sidelining his agent. However, this has created a lot of controversy in the NFL world.
Speaking on “First Take” on Wednesday, Stephen A. Smith didn’t hold back in his criticism of Jones for his remarks regarding his dealings with Pickens and his agent. The ESPN analyst called out the Cowboys’ owner for his choice of words regarding the contract issue.
Thanks for the submission!
“I’m very disturbed by what Jerry Jones said,” Smith said. “I’m gonna call him. I’m gonna go see him if I can, if he will allow me to, because I’m not comfortable with what words just, I just heard come out of Jerry Jones mouth.

“Look at the reporters behind them. Look at their faces … that’s a very, very uncomfortable thing. I love Jerry Jones. Everybody knows that. Everybody knows that’s my guy. I don’t like that. I don’t like that at all. That’s incredibly uncomfortable to say.”

George Pickens’ agent is David Mulugheta of Athletes First. Ironically, he was the same man representing Micah Parsons in the contract talk with the team last offseason. Jones did propose direct dealings with Parsons, and it contributed to the collapse of a potential deal.
Stephen A. Smith believes Jerry Jones needs to recognize the brilliance of David Mulugheta
With the Micah Parsons and George Pickens scenarios, it is clear that Jerry Jones wants to have little to no dealings with David Mulugheta. Nonetheless, Stephen A. Smith believes the Cowboys’ owner needs to recognize the level the agent has reached in the world of sports.
“At some point in time, Jerry has to pay attention to the fact that David Mulugheta is considered one of the best agents in the business,” Smith said. “Let’s get that out of the way right now.
“This is not a slouch. This is not some novice. This is not some dude that just came along and he’s a hanger-on that a player should trust and you’re ill-equipped to negotiate a deal. David Mulugheta is recognized as one of the best agents in the world. He’s that big time.”
Jones’ effort in undermining relationships between his players and their agents has gained a lot of attention in the NFL world. However, the move has yet to attract any disciplinary actions from the NFLPA. Nonetheless, the penalty attached to the infraction is minimal.
