Super Bowl champ Chase Daniel sounds off on potential NFL transfer to restrict participant pay

Chase Daniel criticized the NFL’s proposal to cap individual player contracts.

The league is exploring major changes ahead of the next Collective Bargaining Agreement, including a possible expansion to an 18-game season and more international games. However, the potential cap on player contracts stands out. The idea would mirror the NBA’s model, placing a maximum salary limit on players regardless of market demand, according to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio.

The 2010 Super Bowl champion called it an attack on quarterbacks and top earners.

“Owners leaking the idea of capping individual player earnings is a DIRECT shot at the position that drives the league…QB,” Daniel tweeted on Saturday. “Franchise QBs haven’t needed to be deeply involved w/ the NFLPA, but threaten their earning power & that changes overnight.

“The league & CBA is built on a negotiated revenue split….not a ceiling on individual value. Now, it’s no longer a free market. If all 32 starting QBs got together and decided they wanted to strike, the leverage flips immediately back to players. Instead of limiting salaries, you’re pushing the split even further in the players’ favor in the negotiations.”

The proposal could reshape contract dynamics across the league. While only a small percentage of players earn massive deals, limiting top-end salaries would redistribute money across rosters.

Chase Daniel backs Kansas City Chiefs’ trade for Justin Fields

The Kansas City Chiefs’ trade for Justin Fields on has drawn mixed reactions. However, former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel supported the move.

The franchise acquired Fields from the New York Jets for a 2027 sixth-round pick, adding depth behind Patrick Mahomes. Daniel praised the fit and the opportunity in a video posted on X.

“I love this move so much,” Daniel said on March 17. “I really like Justin Fields. He’s had a really tough go at it. He’s been on four different teams in four years, but this will be his first time with an offensive head coach. This will be his first time with an offensive head coach. Do you remember what Andy Reid did with Mike Vick? You can turn your career around.”

With Mahomes recovering from injury, Daniel emphasized Fields’ immediate value.

“This just ensures that they have a legitimate backup,” Daniel said. “If Patrick Mahomes cannot get ready, Justin Fields is going to play. I mean, could you imagine what Andy Reid’s going to do with Justin Fields? I love this move, not only for the Chiefs but for Justin Fields’ career trajectory.”

After inconsistent stints with multiple teams, Fields joins a stable contender, giving him arguably the best environment to reset and develop.
