LeBron James has already developed special handshakes with his new teammates at the Philadelphia 76ers. The four-time champion performed the special handshakes during the pregame activities at the Sixers’ home opener on Thursday.
James’ custom handshake with Joel Embiid caught the attention of Jason Whitlock. The analyst called out the four-time champ for the act on Friday’s episode of his “Fearless” podcast.
Thanks for the submission!
“It didn’t take long; LeBron James has already worn me out,” he said. “This is some Masonic g*y stuff… That looks g*y to me. 42-year-old man out there pumping his hips in front of a seven-foot man before a basketball game. What are y’all doing… I’m done with LeBron James.”

Whitlock played a clip of James performing the handshake with Embiid while sharing his opinion. In the video, the four-time champion performs a dap with the 2023 MVP before raising his hands to his temples and circling his hips. Embiid lowered his hands to his waist and performed the same motion.
The special handshake has received significant attention, but so has James’ home debut with the Sixers. The four-time champion finished the second game of his 24th season with a double-double, scoring 17 points, 10 boards and five assists to secure a 114-106 win over his former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Tyrese Maxey learns from his mistake and gets out of the way of LeBron James’ first chalk toss in the home opener
For years now, James has been known for having certain pregame rituals, and the legendary chalk toss remains the most consistent one of them all. However, James’ new teammate Tyrese Maxey was not used to his pregame antics.
He walked into the camera accidentally when James was performing his chalk toss during the pregame activities in the season-opening 106-100 win over the New York Knicks on Tuesday. However, Maxey learned from his mistake in the home opener and ducked out of the way as the four-time champ did his thing.
Maxey had apologized to James after photobombing his pregame ritual in the Knicks game. He shared a clip of himself obstructing the camera on Instagram and apologized in the caption.
“My bad, my bad… give me some time; gotta get used to it,” Maxey wrote.
While James put up a strong double-double, Maxey led the scoring for the Sixers in the home opener. He finished with 32 points, three rebounds, and six assists. James and Maxey will next suit up on Saturday to take on the Bucks at home.
