In a March 19 interview with British Vogue, Olivia Rodrigo opened up about her relationship with Sabrina Carpenter after rumors of them being involved in an alleged feud. Carpenter said:

“I think she’s great. I’m so happy for all of her success, too. I love the album she’s put out. It’s just people just get weird and clickbaity. It’s all love, though. I’ve talked to her many times.”

Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter were reportedly involved in a feud involving Joshua Bassett, a former Disney star with whom the singers shared a reported love triangle.

Joshua Bassett and Olivia Rodrigo reportedly began dating around 2019 when they met on the sets of High School Musical: The Musical: Series. Speculation suggests that Rodrigo benned her viral track, Driver’s License, after her breakup with Bassett. Shortly after their relationship reportedly ended, Bassett was linked to Sabrina Carpenter, which sparked rumors of a feud between her and Rodrigo.

Meanwhile, many fans have speculated that Rodrigo penned Deja Vu about Carpenter, although the singer denied such theories in 2021. In an interview with Billboard, she said:

“I totally understand people’s curiosity with the specifics of who the song’s about and what it’s about, but to me, that’s really the least important part of the song. It’s resonating with people because of how emotional it is, and I think everything else is not important.”

In a June 2025 interview with Rolling Stone, Carpenter also opened up about the same era. She did not name Rodrigo but spoke about what she learnt from that time.

“What that era taught me was to just trust myself, and trust that everything is going to work out the way it’s supposed to, and trust that relationships are put into your life for a reason. You might not see that in the moment, but you see it later,” she said.

Sabrina Carpenter’s last album, Man’s Best Friend, came out in August 2025. The singer also collaborated with Taylor Swift, featuring in her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, in the titular track last year. The singer is currently on her Short N Sweet Tour to promote her previous album, which included her viral hits Espresso and Please Please Please.
