Runners from all over New York City and the world began their day by heading to Staten Island to reach the starting line of the 55th New York City Marathon — and finished it in triumph in Central Park.
As dawn gave way to morning, spectators staked out their favorite spots along the 26.2-mile course. With witty signs, treats and cowbells, they were ready to keep nearly 60,000 runners’ spirits high.
Runners have often said the New York crowds are a big part of what make this race special.
The weather also seemed to work in runners’ favor — with sunny skies, low wind and seasonally appropriate 60-degree temperatures.
