“They did get paid” – Fans react to Rory McIlroy’s feedback on Patrick Reed and different LIV Golfers eyeing PGAT return

Fans on social media have reacted to Rory McIlroy’s comment on Patrick Reed and other LIV golfers eyeing a PGA Tour return. Last week, Reed won the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, and in the post-round press conference, he was asked about his future options. In response, the American golfer acknowledged that he would consider playing on the PGA Tour.

Rory McIlroy opened up about Reed’s comment after the TGL game on Monday. He talked about the LIV golfer’s return on the PGA Tour.

NUCLR Golf shared the Northern Irish golfer’s comment on its X (formerly Twitter) account with a caption:

“Post match at TGL, Rory McIlroy reacted to Patrick Reed’s comments: “Patrick Reed said it in Dubai last week. It seems like some of those guys are maybe starting to realize that they’re not getting everything that they wanted out of going over there, and that’s obviously a great thing for the PGA TOUR.”

Fans in the comments section reacted to it. However, there were mixed reactions from the people.

“They did get paid,” a fan wrote.

“Lol Rory making things up in his mind,” a fan added.

“Reed would destroy Rory,” another fan said.

Here are more fans’ reactions:

“But the PGA Tour got it wrong again by only allowing a few certain players back. It should’ve been opened up to any and all who met the standard requirements for the PGA Tour. Otherwise, it’s falling far short of having the best of the best play on the same Tour,” one more fan added.

“Reed is worldwide player!… never did he say he didn’t want to play LIV! Most have extended. All professional golfers always need to keep there options open,” a fan added.

What did Patrick Reed say about playing on the PGA Tour?

Patrick Reed was pretty impressive with his game at the 2026 Hero Dubai Desert Classic. He registered a win in the game, and in the post-round press conference, he revealed that he has yet to sign a LIV Golf contract.

When asked about his other options, if not playing in the Saudi league, he said (via ASAP Sports):

“Continue to play out here (DP World Tour) and be in the Top 10 and be on the PGA TOUR next year. I mean…”

“………I mean, if I ended up not playing on LIV this year, obviously mit would be one of those things that I would be out here playing more on this tour and trying to secure one of those spots in the Top 10, and allow myself to get back on the PGA TOUR,” he added.

Patrick Reed is one of the earlier joiners on the LIV Golf. He plays for Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces GC. Last season in the Saudi league, he had a decent outing and settled in seventh place in the season standings.

Some of his notable finishes from the last season are T10 in Hong Kong, T7 in Miami, T4 in Korea, and T7 in the United Kingdom. He also won the Dallas event.
