“This one I make a point of greeting”

Santos FC took a cheeky dig at Thiago Mendes on social media after the midfielder refused to shake hands with Neymar. They were happy with the win and posted a photo of their captain shaking hands with an image of three points.

The issue between Neymar and Mendes started in 2020, when PSG took on Lyon. The two were playing in Ligue 1 when the midfielder’s harsh tackle on the Brazilian star left him with an ankle sprain.

While the midfielder apologised on social media, the former PSG star refused to acknowledge it. Meanwhile, his father went on a rant and hit out at the Lyon star for the tackle.

The two met earlier this year in the Brazilian Serie A, and had another coming together. The Santos star was not happy with a tackle, and confronted Mendes on the pitch, before they had another coming together later in the game, when Neymar went down holding his face after a touch from the Vasco Da Gama star.

The Santos forward was not happy with how things went and hit out at Mendes in his post-match interview and said:

“He always wants to start trouble, he always wants to act tough, it’s always like that. With all due respect, he’s an idiot. He already hurt me once at PSG, he threatened me today, so let’s see if he’s man enough to hurt me again.”

When the players were sharing hands before the match on Sunday, Mendes refused to shake hands with Neymar. Santos were not happy with the incident, and constantly posted about it on social media.

One jab at Mendes was ttheir captain shaking hands with an empty image that simply read ‘three points’. They posted it with a cheeky caption – ‘This one I make a point of greeting’.

Santos won 3-0 in the league clash, which took them out of the relegation zone. Vasco Da Gama remain second from the bottom with 22 points.

Neymar unsure about future after Santos contract ends in December

Neymar has admitted that he is not sure about his future in football after his contract with Santos ends in December this year. He has been linked with a move to the MLS, but has already walked away from talks with FC Cincinnati.

Reports suggest that Inter Miami are also keeping tabs on the Brazilian, and a reunion with Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi could be on the cards.
