After launching an initial test of post scheduling last month, Threads has now announced that all users will be able to schedule their posts natively in the app.
As you can see in this sequence, Threads users are now able to select a date and time for a post to go live, direct within the post composer.
As explained by Threads:
“Tap the three-dot menu on the composer, then tap Schedule. Choose a date and time, then tap Schedule again. Posts you’ve scheduled will appear in your drafts folder, where you can edit or delete them as needed.”
So you can not only schedule your updates, but you can also view your scheduled posts, and edit as you see fit.
It is worth pointing out, however, that technically you have been able to schedule Threads for a while.
Last March, Threads added post scheduling to its API, which means that third-party apps and planners can enable post scheduling in the app. So functionally, it’s not entirely new, but it’s now available natively, within the app itself, which will make it easier to plan posts on the go.
The next step then is for Meta to add Threads into its Business Suite app, where you can schedule content for Facebook and IG. Once that happens, then social media managers will have more capacity to control their Threads presence from a single platform, which will be a big help in planning and posting.
Threads continues to iterate at a rapid rate, as it looks to catch up to other apps and compete for a share of attention. The platform is now up to 300 million users and growing fast, and its weekly, almost daily tweaks and changes continue to provide more functionality to cater to user needs.
And scheduling is a key update, which could facilitate a lot more posts from publishers and brands, expanding the overall conversation in the app.
And if it keeps growing at its current rate, and the backlash against Elon Musk’s X continues to grow, Threads could well overtake X as the real-time social app of choice early this year.
