TikTok has announced a range of activations to celebrate Latin Heritage Month, including a new creator showcase, an in-app hub, creator support initiatives, music highlights, and more.
As per TikTok:
“The Latin community has always been a powerhouse of creativity, resilience, and culture – cultivating spaces for people to celebrate their heritage while contributing to global trends on TikTok. We continue to be inspired by our Visionary #CasaTikTok community and we’re honored to provide a space where diverse voices come together to represent and celebrate Latin culture.”
First off, TikTok’s announced its inaugural Latin Heritage Month Visionary Voices list, which shines the spotlight on a range of Latin creators in various categories.
These creators will be highlighted on a new #CasaTikTok page in the app, which will also feature Latin-owned businesses, musicians, and more.
TikTok’s also inviting other Latin creators to apply to its #CasaTikTok creator community program, which will provide access to expanded educational resources, events and webinars, designed to help creators elevate their content on TikTok.
TikTok’s also looking to give the floor to Latin musicians in the app:
“Our celebration of #CasaTikTok will also feature #MusicaLatina and #MusicaMexicana music playlists on our sounds page, guest curated by Visionary Voices honoree @rauwalejandro and @manuelturizoz”
Finally, TikTok will also showcase Latin-owned businesses that you can shop from in the app, via live streams and the TikTok Shop, while it’s also running an IRL #ShopLatinOwned Creator Mixer, which will bring various Latin-owned brands together for a special live event.
TikTok’s keen to highlight the contributions of different communities in the app, and also, the role that the platform plays in amplifying these creators, and bringing value to minority group. And the app has inarguably provided more opportunities to many communities, but that seemingly hasn’t been a factor in the U.S. Government’s assessment of the potential security risks of the app.
Which, of course, it shouldn’t, but events like this do underline the role that TikTok can and does play in facilitating expanded access and reach, especially for certain creators and niches.
