TikTok Expands Subscriptions for Creators

TikTok is expanding its subscription option for creators, which will enable more users to build an audience of paying subscribers in the app.

TikTok initially launched subscriptions for Live creators back in 2022, but earlier this year, at its U.S. creator summit, it announced that it would soon expand subscriptions to non-Live creators as well.

Now TikTok is extending availability to even more creators in the app.

TikTok subscriptions

As per TikTok:

Subscription allows creators to offer their most engaged followers special access to exclusive perks, unique experiences, and a members-only community for a monthly fee. Building on the strong, authentic connections they’ve already established through their content, creators can use the feature to provide an exclusive space to enhance these relationships and encourage more meaningful engagement.”

Eligible creators will be able to customize their Subscription packages into three different pricing tiers, with a selection of benefits that align with their approach.

Creators will be able to offer:

  • Private Communication Channels – Privileged access to various communication channels, including Sub Space, chatscomments, and messages, for direct interaction with their subscribers.
  • Exclusive Content – Special videosLIVEs, and notes that are only visible to subscribers.
  • Community Identifiers – Unique stickers for use during LIVEs and evolving badges that appear next to subscribers’ names on their profiles and in comments, reflecting the creator’s distinct community identity.
  • Customized Perks – Ready-made perks provided by TikTok, such as performance requestsDiscord rolesshoutouts, and LIVE topics, or custom perks designed by the creator specifically for their community.

So TikTok’s not only allowing creators to offer additional elements, it’s also guiding creators on what, specifically, they can offer, in order to ensure that the subscription packages are viable and valuable.

But you will need to have a pretty big presence in the app to access this element. Eligible creators have be 18 years or older, have an account in good standing, and have at least 10K followers, and 100K video views in the past calendar month.

So it’s only, really, for bigger accounts in the app.

Still, it’s a good way for TikTok to encourage community connection, and strengthen ties to solidify creator followings, while also offering additional revenue opportunities for creators in the app.

Because monetizing short form video is hard, and TikTok really needs to provide more options for monetization to keep creators posting to the app.

TikTok says that its expanded subscription offering is being rolled out to eligible creators in select regions over the coming weeks.
