Here is what the game reveals about Bandle #1524 before a single guess is made:

  • Release year: 2018

The tracks stack up in this sequence as guesses are missed or skipped:

  • Drums
  • Bass
  • Piano
  • Synth 1 and 2
  • Voice cover and backing vocals

Clue

Today’s Bandle clue is “Minus Myself”. Read it as a playful twist on a song title, not a literal instruction.

The song reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, which made it Halsey’s first number-one single as a lead artist. It spent 52 weeks on the chart, became the number-one pop radio song of 2019 in the US, and is certified Diamond in the United States.

How to Play Bandle

Bandle is a daily music guessing game where players identify a song by listening to one isolated instrument track at a time. Heavily inspired by Wordle, it gives players six attempts or fewer to name the mystery song. It is free on the official Bandle Web App, and it can also be downloaded for iOS from the Apple App Store and for Android.

Core gameplay

  • Start with the first track: Every puzzle begins with a single isolated instrument layer, typically the drums. Press play to hear the rhythm groove.
  • Submit a guess: Type into the search bar, and autocomplete fills in the full song title and artist. Hit Guess if you think you know it.
  • Add layers: If the guess is wrong, or if you choose Skip, the game permanently adds a new instrument layer on top of the mix, such as bass, guitar or piano and keys.
  • Win the round: The game ends as soon as the guess is correct. The fewer instruments you need to hear, the higher the score.

Scoring and ranking

In modes like Bandle Unlimited, performance is tracked across a multi-song run:

  • Perfect score: Identifying the song from the drums alone earns a maximum of 10,000 points.
  • Layer penalties: Each extra instrument layer subtracts 2,000 points from that song’s maximum value.
  • Guess penalties: Every incorrect guess costs a flat 500 points.
  • Skill ranks: Based on a 50,000-point total, players receive one of six ranks: Music Genius, Music Expert, Music Buff, Radio Regular, Shower Singer or Silence Enjoyer.

Strategy notes

Stuck players can use the optional meta-clues, such as release year, genre or YouTube view count, though using them can affect the final ranking.

Music educators and experienced players point out that drums date a track, while the bass line carries the actual chord progression. Combining the two usually reveals both the key and the groove. Vocals are the easiest giveaway but carry the worst point value, so they work best as a last resort.

Other game modes

  • Daily puzzle: One curated song drops every day for free.
  • Bandle Unlimited: A web-exclusive mode for consecutive rounds beyond the single daily puzzle.
  • Trivia games: The mobile app has 9 extra trivia categories, including completing lyrics, identifying lead members, spotting performers, and matching songs by BPM or album names.

If you enjoy daily games like this, Connections and the NYT Mini Crossword are also worth trying if you want to keep a winning streak going longer than today’s Bandle puzzle.
