Tony D’Angelo proved that he really is that guy when he had to fight off WWE’s “Shield 2.0” at NXT Vengeance Day. Despite all the odds stacked against him, he would pick up a win in an instant classic.
At NXT Vengeance Day, Tony D’Angelo was all set to go up against Darkstate’s Dion Lennox in a classic match – no stipulations as such. However, the rivalry he has had with Darkstate has been so heated that they couldn’t really help themselves but begin right off the bat backstage. Darkstate, for those who don’t know, has been labeled as the next Shield or Shield 2.0 due to the nature, look, and demeanor of the faction. Of course, there can never be another Shield, but that doesn’t take away from the raw talent that Darkstate, and by extension, Dion Lennox, has. The brawl was an incredible one, and it could go down as one of the best backstage brawls in the 21st century in WWE. The two men would go to war, but D’Angelo had to singlehandedly fight off Darkstate while the security indirectly assisted by holding the other members back.
Thanks for the submission!
Ultimately, it was OTM (Out the Mud) who came to the rescue and would serve as neutralizers for the rest of Darkstate, allowing Tony D’Angelo to focus on Lennox. The two literally ripped through a part of the backstage arena to transition to the main in-ring area, and when the action actually began with the bell ringing, it was seven minutes of war between the two men. Ultimately, D’Angelo would use his experience to prove to be the better man, and the NXT crowd was ecstatic to see D’Angelo pick up the epic victory over Lennox.
There is certainly no shame with the loss that Lennox faced in the hands of the acclaimed Tony D’Angelo. He is one of NXT’s most experienced veterans, and he looks to be taking it to a whole new level.
It’s going to be interesting to see what lies ahead for D’Angelo, Lennox, and the Darkstate faction as wel as OTM.
