Trump Expands 50% tariffs to home equipment beginning June 23

Trump tariffs ramp up consumer goods prices.

Trump is expanding steel tariffs to cover a wider range of imported household appliances starting June 23, according to a notice posted Thursday. The new levies will apply to “steel derivative products,” which now include items like dishwashers, washing machines, refrigerators, and more.

The tariffs—currently set at 50% for most countries—were first introduced at 25% in March and later doubled. This marks the second time the list of affected products has been broadened. In the first expansion, nearly 300 categories were added, ranging from horseshoes to bulldozer blades.

This latest move adds eight new product lines, including combined refrigerator-freezers, dryers, dishwashers, freezers, ovens and stoves, garbage disposals, and welded wire racks. According to the Federal Register, the tariff will be calculated based on the steel content in each product.
