Star opener Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for 34 runs in the ongoing fifth T20I between India and South Africa. The game is being played in Ahmedabad on Friday, December 19.
On the fourth ball of the sixth over of India’s batting innings, Abhishek Sharma was given caught behind off Corbin Bosch. However, he challenged the decision and went for the review. Abhishek felt that he did not edge the ball. However, UltraEdge showed a small spike. There was no initial appeal from wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock or Bosch; however, the umpire adjudged Abhishek out. Eventually, the opener had to walk back disappointed.

Abhishek’s 34 runs came off 21 balls with six boundaries and a six at a strike rate of 161.9. Along with Sanju Samson, he ensured that India got off to a blazing start at the top. The duo added 63 runs in just 5.4 overs for the opening stand.

Abhishek Sharma has been in stellar form in T20 cricket in 2025. The left-hander scored 1602 runs in T20 cricket this year. This is the second-most runs in a T20 calendar year by an Indian batter, only behind Virat Kohli, who made 1614 runs in 2016.
Abhishek smashed 439 runs from 14 games in IPL 2025 at an average of 33.76 and a strike rate of 193.39. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025-26, he slammed 304 runs from six matches at an average of 50.66 and a strike rate of 249.18 with a hundred and two half-centuries.
In T20Is this year, he has scored 859 runs from 21 games at an average of 42.95 and a strike rate of 193.46 with a hundred and five half-centuries. He has been consistent with a high strike rate, playing an important role for India in the format throughout the year.
