Major US stock indices are closing lower has volatile conditions persist. On-again/ off-again tariffs in Canada along with the potential for peace in Ukraine Russian war caused up and down price action. However, the rally into the last hour or so of trading that saw the broader indices turn into positive territory, cannot be sustained and gains were evaporated.
The final numbers are showing:
- Dow industrial average fell -478.23 points or -1.14% at 41433.49.
- S&P index -42.49 points or -0.76% at 5572.07.
- NASDAQ index -32.23 points or -0.18% at 17436.10.
Surprisingly, the Russell 2000 gained +4.52 points or 0.22% at 2023.59.
At session highs, the S&P index was up 21.74 points, while the NASDAQ index gained 219.07 points.
The Dow industrial average never made it into positive territory today. It’s high for the day was still down -43.44 points.
