Veteran caddie Kip Henley opened up about the pre-shot rituals of Rory McIlroy at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The Northern Irish golfer is playing this week on the PGA Tour.
It’s the first signature Tour event of the season and also the first for McIlroy on the circuit. He had a good start to the game. Henley shared a video on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday with a caption:
Thanks for the submission!
“I need a good player to explain to me why anyone would need to change to the other side of the line to move your coin? Either way works. I had seen 100 guys do this and I get cornfused every time they do.”
Rory McIlroy is the defending champion of the tournament. After two rounds of the event, he was tied for 17th place on the leaderboard. Notably, after two rounds, Akshay Bhatia and Ryo Hisatsune tied for the lead at 15-under and are in contention to win the game. Rickie Fowler settled in a tie for third place at 14-under with Sam Burns.
Rory McIlroy opens up about his performance at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am
Rory McIlroy teed it up for the second round of the 2026 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am at Pebble Beach Golf Links on Friday. He started the game on the first tee hole and then made an eagle on the second hole.
He carded two birdies and an eagle on the front nine and made three birdies and two bogeys on the back nine for a round of 5-under 67. He jumped 11 spots on the leaderboard after the second round. He talked about his performance in the post-round press conference.
“I got off to a really good start again and then stalled on the back nine again,” he said. “So I feel like I’ve been a little bit wasteful the last two days and maybe not capitalized on those great starts.
“It’s very low scoring, it’s soft. Hopefully if I can get off to a good start again tomorrow and pick up a few shots early I’ll be right in the mix. Yeah, game feels pretty good actually, feels a little bit better than it did in Dubai a couple weeks ago. Just trying to keep building on that,” he added.
Rory McIlroy played the opening round of 68. Last year, he won the event after carding four rounds of 66, 70, 65, and 66.
Notably, before starting his campaign on the PGA Tour, Rory McIlroy played in DP World Tour events. He was tied for third place at the Dubai Invitational, where he played four rounds of 66, 74, 68, and 68. He then played at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic and settled in a tie for 33rd place after playing four rounds of 73, 69, 71, and 73.
