Washington Capitals Reveal Cherry Blossom “Screaming Eagle” Jersey – SportsLogos.Net News

With peak bloom just around the corner, the Washington Capitals have introduced a new Cherry Blossom-themed jersey.

The jersey features the team’s suddenly classic “Screaming Eagle” logo, now depicted grabbing a cherry blossom branch, in tribute to Washington, D.C.’s annual National Cherry Blossom Festival. The petal-inspired colour scheme extends into the numbering, which includes full-colour blossoms and stems within the digits. The Capitals’ 50th Anniversary patch, updated in pink with additional cherry blossoms, appears on the shoulders.

This specialty jersey was designed by local D.C. artist Taylor Kampa Olson of TKOPaintings, who also designed last season’s Capitals cherry blossom jersey. Due to the NHL’s rules forbidding players from wearing specialty jerseys during pre-game warmups, Capitals players will only wear the jersey during their arrivals at Capital One Arena ahead of their game against the Detroit Red Wings on March 18.

The jerseys will be auctioned off through the Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation. The auction, which will include autographed Cherry Blossom jerseys and pucks, will run from March 18 through March 28 on washcaps.com/CherryBlossomAuction.

In addition to the jersey, the Capitals have released a full Cherry Blossom merchandise collection, available at the Team Store at Capital One Arena and MedStar Capitals Iceplex and online at shopmonumentalsports.com.

After originally being worn from 1995 through 2007, the Washington Capitals’ “Screaming Eagle” logo has suddenly experienced a surge in popularity. The Capitals brought the logo back twice as part of Adidas’s Reverse Retro uniform program in 2021 and 2023 and recently re-introduced it for six games this season as part of the franchise’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
