Cody Rhodes could have a major match at WWE Royal Rumble 2026

The American Nightmare is the Undisputed WWE Champion. Given that he holds the most prestigious title in World Wrestling Entertainment, if he retains his title on SmackDown against Drew McIntyre, he will move toward the Royal Rumble.

According to a recent report, Cody Rhodes’ Royal Rumble challenger has already been determined. He could face his former stablemate and mentor, Randy Orton.

The Apex Predator returned to the sports entertainment juggernaut last week on Friday Night SmackDown in the opening segment, and RKO’d The Miz, sending a strong statement to the entire division.

Moreover, The Viper also had an interaction with The American Nightmare backstage, where he made it clear that he was coming for the Undisputed Title next, once Rhodes was done finishing business with McIntyre.

That said, it will be interesting to see what plans Triple H and his WWE creative team have for the Royal Rumble 2026 premium live event and what future implications it may bring as the sports entertainment juggernaut heads closer to the Road to WrestleMania 42.
