WATCH: Flavio Cobolli lashes out at umpire in indignant outburst after shock upset towards World No.91 at Monte-Carlo Masters

Flavio Cobolli recently suffered a major upset at the Monte-Carlo Masters as he went down against World No.91 Alexander Block in straight sets. After the match, the Italian lashed out at the umpire in an angry outburst.

Cobolli arrived in Monte-Carlo carrying the weight of his disappointing campaign at the Miami Open, where he went down to World No.68 Raphael Collignon in straight sets during his opening round match. At the ongoing ATP 1000 tournament, the 23-year-old took on Francisco Comesana for his first round encounter, defeating the Argentinian 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 after a hard fought battle. He then took on Alexander Block for his round of 32 clash, going down 3-6, 3-6 against the Belgian.

After his loss, Flavio Cobolli lashed out at the umpire in an angry outburst with a reportedly expletive-laden complaint as he walked to the net. After his handshake with Blocks, the Italian once again had a few words for the referee, accusing them of ‘doing nothing’. Watch a video of the moment below:

This marks Cobolli’s second clash with an umpire in 2026. Earlier this year, the Italian had an argument with the official at the United Cup when they refused to call hindrance for a ball that fell out of the his own pocket.

After the disappointing end to his campaign at the Monte-Carlo Masters, Flavio Cobolli is now expected to return to action at a surprising event. The Italian is named on the entry list for the Sardegna Open, an ATP Challenger event in Cagliari, Italy. The tournament will take place April 28 and May 3.

Cobolli enters the event as the top seed and home favorite. He will be joined in Cagliari by the likes of Luciano Darderi, Tomas Machac Etcheverry, Jaume Munar, and more.

Overall, Flavio Cobolli has seen mixed results in his 2026 season. The Italian was handed early exits in his first three tournaments of the year, losing out in the opening rounds of the Australian Open, Open Occitanie, and the Dallas Open. He then made a semifinals appearance at the Delray Beach Open, before lifting his first title of the year at the Mexican Open.
