Flamer was penned by the distinguished author and artist Mike Curato. Curato’s work, a semi-autobiographical graphic novel set in 1995, was printed in 2020. The protagonist of the story is teased at a Boy Scout summer time camp for “acting in a manner considered stereotypical of gay men.”

Characters within the graphic novel speak about erections, masturbation, penis measurement, and pornography. There’s additionally an illustration of teenage boys of their underwear.
