What Lindsay Davenport stated after re-signing as US captain for the Billie Jean King Cup

After leading the United States in the final of the Billie Jean King Cup this year, Lindsay Davenport was rewarded with a two-year contract to remain as captain by the U.S. Tennis Association on Tuesday. The team made it to the finals of the event for the first time since 2018. They lost to Italy in the final. Davenport has also seen success at the event as a player, winning it three times in 1996, 1999 and 2000.

The former three-time Grand Slam champion shared her excitement about the opportunity to lead the team for two more years in the Billie Jean King Cup.

“It’s an incredible honor to serve as U.S. Billie Jean Cup Captain, and I’m thrilled and humbled to continue doing it, especially during such an amazing time for women’s tennis in America,” she said (via Tennis.com).

In 2025, Davenport had the opportunity to work with World No. 3 Coco Gauff, No. 4 Amanda Anisimova, No. 6 Jessica Pegula and No. 7 Madison Keys, marking the first time since 2004 when the roster comprised four players in the WTA top 10 rankings.

The qualifying matches for the 2026 edition will start in April.

Lindsay Davenport shares her reaction after Elena Rybakina stuns Aryna Sabalenka in WTA Finals

Elena Rybakina is going up in the women’s tennis order after she won all five of her matches, including beating World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the final, at the WTA Finals in Riyadh.

This has filled several analysts with confidence in Rybakina’s abilities to continue with the momentum in 2026. Lindsay Davenport also lauded Rybakina for showing remarkable skills in the final.

“If the serve is on and indoors, she is by far the most aggressive big-hitting player,” Davenport said on The Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast. “If it’d have gone three sets could it have been a different story, of course, but if, if, if, as we know, doesn’t exist, so yeah Rybakina at her best, her serve is as good as you get, her backhand is as good as you’ll get, it’s whether the forehand goes down the line and early on in the match.

“If she gets that down the line consistently then she’s unbeatable and she pretty much took care of everyone in this tournament.”

With the 2026 Australian Open on the horizon, Elena Rybakina has emerged as a strong competitor alongside Sabalenka, Amanda Anisimova, Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek.
