F1 fans online have shared their reaction after Lewis Hamilton secured his first race win with Ferrari at the Barcelona Grand Prix on Sunday. The Briton took full advantage of a perfectly timed virtual safety car to beat Mercedes’ George Russell quite comfortably in the end.
Hamilton did not get the start he was hoping for at the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit on Sunday as he stayed in P2 behind Russell after both got off the line. But Ferrari made the decision to go onto an aggressive three-stop strategy, while both Mercedes drivers were on a two-stop strategy.
This bold move was followed by a little bit of luck for the Italian team and Hamilton, as a virtual safety car came out just as both Russell and Kimi Antonelli had pitted for a final time. Hamilton was able to take full advantage of it as he pitted for a third time under the VSC and came out in front.
He subsequently extended his lead and took the chequered flag first to win his first Grand Prix with Ferrari.
F1 fans online have shared their reactions to this historic feat by Lewis Hamilton at the Barcelona GP.
“Whatever Kim Kardashian is doing, keep doing it. Lewis is a BEAST!” wrote one fan.
“NEVER DOUBT THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME,” said another user.
“Never thought i ever said this FERRARI STRATEGY MASTERCLASS,” exclaimed another fan.
Here are some more reactions:
“Ferrari finally got the strategy right. Happy to see Lewis get a win,” said another user.
“New team. New chapter. Same Lewis Hamilton,” wrote another fan.
“Am I being too ambitious by saying we’re going for that 8th? Oh Lewis,” said another user.
With this win, Hamilton has now brought down the gap to championship leader Kimi Antonelli, who suffered a DNF at the Barcelona GP. He is now only 41 points behind the Italian teenager as he sits second in the drivers’ standings.
Lewis Hamilton lost for words after claiming his first Ferrari win at the Barcelona GP

Lewis Hamilton was lost for words after claiming his first Ferrari win at the Barcelona GP. He explained that it was difficult for him to even stay in the moment and believe what he had just achieved after the race on Sunday.
Speaking to F1 TV, Hamilton said:
“It’s really, really hard to try to be really present in the moment and really live in the moment. Hard to believe that we just did that whole long race and we came out on top. It’s just…wow. Wow, wow.
“I’ve been hoping and praying for this moment, and working towards it really hard with the team, and just such great dedication from everybody. I can’t believe I get my first Grand Prix win here in Barcelona. It’s such a privileged position to be in, and something I will never forget.”
Hamilton also added that he was lucky that the VSC gave him the chance to come out in the lead of the race, even though he felt that his pace was strong enough to challenge for the win either way.
