WhatsApp has updated its Chat Filters option, which it launched back in April, and evolved it into a new function that it’s now calling “Lists” instead.
As you can see in this example image, WhatsApp Lists will filter all of your chats into different categories, making it easier to stay across all of your various group individual chats and group discussions, including neighborhood groups, kids sporting chats, work colleagues, etc.
Which is exactly what Chat Filters was, but now, WhatsApp has decided that Lists is a better title, with the only addition being that you can now edit and name your Lists, as opposed to WhatsApp filtering them into its own categories.
As explained by WhatsApp:
“With Lists, you can now filter your chats with custom categories of your choice. Whether that’s a list for family, work or your local neighborhood, Lists help you focus on the conversations that are most important, when you need them.”
So again, rather than these being filtered into categories of WhatsApp’s choosing, with Lists, you can now name them whatever you like, and add whichever chats you want to them.
So I guess the name change does make sense.
“You can create and edit your lists easily by tapping the + in the filter bar at the top of your Chats tab, or edit by long-pressing a list. Similar to your ‘favorites’, you can add both groups and one-on-one chats to a list, and any list you create will appear in the filter bar.”
It could be an easier way to manage your various WhatsApp conversations, and ensure that you keep up to date in each category, while also prioritizing what’s most important to you.
WhatsApp’s rolling Lists out to all users today, and it expects the option to be available to everyone “in the coming weeks.”
