When he will get out early, I do not really feel like consuming

Veteran Marathi and Bollywood actor Nana Patekar passed away at his home in Goa on Thursday, October 8. He suffered a cardiac arrest and was declared dead at around 5:30 am. As per a report in NDTV, the actor was found unconscious at his home following which he was rushed to a hospital. The report added that doctors tried to revive him for almost 45 minutes, but there was no response.

Like most Indians, Patekar was also a huge fan of cricket. Former captain Virat Kohli was one of his favorite players. In fact, in an interview in January last year, he revealed that he did not feel like eating anything when Kohli got out early. In a video that was posted on TV9’s YouTube channel, he commented:

“Virat is one player that I like a lot. When he gets out early, I don’t feel like eating. I have so much interest in cricket.”

Meanwhile, Kohli paid tribute to the late actor through a heartfelt post on social media. Taking to his official X handle, he wrote:

“A true legend of Indian cinema. His work and legacy will live on for generations. Rest in peace, Nana Patekar ji. Om Shanti. 🙏.”

As per Rediff.com, Patekar once revealed that he had played cricket as a youngster and even bowled off-spin at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park. Due to financial issues, a young Patekar could not afford formal coaching, but his passion for the game remained strong.


“Around 2:30, he sent a message to his friend” – Doctor shares details on Nana Patekar’s last hours

After suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa, Patekar was rushed to Manipal Hospital, but could not be saved. Dr Shekhar Salkar, Chief of the Oncology Department at Manipal Hospital, shared details of the actor’s final hours while speaking to the media. He told ANI:

“Nana Patekar was brought dead to the hospital around 4:30, and he was declared dead by 5:30. We tried our best to save him, but he was brought dead. Cardiac massage was given for 45 minutes to 1 hour, but he just couldn’t be saved.”

The doctor added that Patekar had messaged a friend around 2:30am, saying he was not feeling well. But, as it was nighttime, his friend could not see the message. The doctor said:

“He went to his house at around 4 o’clock. By that time, he was sweating and all. They moved him, all those primary things. But he was slowly becoming unconscious… So they sent his caretaker to the hospital… He took our ambulance.”

Dr Salkar further revealed that Patekar was shifted to the hospital at around 4:20 or 4:30 am. He added:

“We also tried our best, but he was brought dead. Then we had to file a police case because there’s an MLC (medico-legal case).”

Born Vishwanath Patekar on January 1, 1951 in Murud-Janjira, Patekar is regarded as one of the greatest actors of Indian cinema. He won three National Film Awards, four Filmfare Awards and two Maharashtra State Film Awards. He was conferred the Padma Shri award in 2013 for his contribution to cinema and arts.

Patekar is survived by his wife Neelkanti and son Malhar. He was last seen on the big screen in Vishal Bhardwaj’s O’Romeo and also made a cameo in the Prime Video film Subedaar. Before his death, he shot for the movie Shakti Shalini, which is directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and stars Aneet Padda.
