When will the ECB lower rates of interest? de Cos says the March projections are crucial

Financial institution of Spain´s governor Pablo Hernández de Cos and due to this fact European Central Financial institution Governing Council member Pablo Hernandez de Cos spoke in an interview with Cypriot newspaper Politis printed on Sunday.

do Cos firmly highlighted the significance of the Financial institution’s new outlook for inflation and financial development. These are due in March:

  • “The projections will be key to assessing, first, whether we can be sufficiently confident that our 2% medium-term target will be achieved, taking into account the associated risks, and second, the rate path that is compatible with reaching our symmetric target,”

On latest information de Cos added:

  • “inflation figures have been somewhat below projections,”
  • disinflation within the EU is “well advanced”
  • disinflation is probably going “to continue in the coming quarters”

Yep, the March ECB assembly, which shall be accompanied by the brand new forecasts by the Financial institution, is shaping up as a crucial new piece of knowledge.

On Thursday last week ECB Chief Economist Philip Lane stated these revised forecasts would supply “the opportunity for a comprehensive update of our medium-term inflation outlook.”
