Who are Darryn Peterson’s dad and mom? Know extra about projected No. 1 choose’s private life

Darryn Peterson has made a name for himself as a freshman with the Kansas Jayhawks. This article will explore his family and provide more details about his parents.

Who are Darryn Peterson’s parents?

Darryn Peterson was born in Canton, Ohio, on January 17, 2007, to Darryl and Natatia Peterson. His father previously played basketball at the high school basketball Western Hills High School. He later spent his collegiate career at the University of Akron. However, there is not a lot of information available about his mother’s background.

During his career at the University of Akron, Darryn Peterson’s dad played in 91 games with 69 career starts and scored 1,156 total points in four seasons. His older brother, Darryl Peterson III, however, chose a different career path and plays football for the Wisconsin Badgers.

The Kansas Jayhawks freshman had a close relationship with both his parents. During an interview in 2023, he highlighted how his parents play a part in helping him grow as an athlete.

“How I got to where I am today is really just my mom and my dad,” Peterson said. “They keep me hungry and humble. They keep me hardworking in the classroom. From a young age, they told me I gotta focus on the classroom by being an adult to play basketball, which I love to do. They had me really focused on the ground at a young age and even when I didn’t want to work out, they taught me how to be consistent and grind.”

Taking a look at Darryn Peterson’s freshman season with Kansas

Coming out of high school, Darryn Peterson had offers from programs like Ohio and Kansas State. However, he decided to commit to play for the Kansas Jayhawks.

The freshman quickly established himself as a key player on the team. In 20 games, he averaged 19.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. However, Peterson has also missed significant playing time due to injuries.

These issues have raised concerns about his draft projections. The freshman is expected to be one-and-done and declare for the upcoming NBA draft. Several experts and analysts project him to compete to go No.1 overall.

However, basketball analyst Marc Stein has raised some red flags about Peterson being the No.1 pick. In an article published on Monday, he shared what an anonymous NFL executive said about the Kansas freshman.

“I wouldn’t take (Kansas’ Darryn) Peterson with the first pick. Too many question marks,” the exec said as per Stein.

The Kansas Jayhawks finished the regular season with a 22-9 (12-6 Big 12) record. They secured a 104-85 victory over Kansas State in their final game before the start of the conference tournament.
